Nigerian Passport Falls to 90th in Henley Passport Index

Nigeria has dropped to 90th position on the latest Henley Passport Index, with holders of the Nigerian passport now enjoying visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 44 destinations worldwide.

The July 2026 edition of the global ranking, released on Tuesday by Henley & Partners, placed the Nigerian passport 90th out of 199 passports assessed, reflecting its current level of international travel freedom.

The Henley Passport Index ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without obtaining a visa before departure. The index uses data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), alongside research by Henley & Partners.

The visa-free score of 44 reflects the limited international travel access available to Nigerian passport holders, who still need visas for most destinations.

The latest rankings underscore the growing disparity in global travel access, with passports from several countries offering entry to more than 190 destinations without prior visas, while others, including Nigeria, provide access to significantly fewer destinations.

The Henley Passport Index is updated periodically to reflect changes in visa policies and international travel agreements.
