Governor Adeleke Announces Public Holiday for Voters to Collect PVCs

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a public holiday to enable residents, particularly public servants, to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election.
The governor announced the work-free day in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to the statement, the decision is intended to give workers sufficient time to collect their PVCs before the voter card distribution exercise closes, ensuring they are eligible to participate in the upcoming election.
The directive, which has been circulated across the state’s public service, is intended to encourage wider voter participation and strengthen the democratic process ahead of the polls.
The state government, however, noted that personnel providing essential services, including healthcare workers and security officers, should make appropriate arrangements to ensure the public holiday does not disrupt critical services or affect residents’ wellbeing.
Governor Adeleke also urged public servants and workers in the informal sector who are yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of the work-free day and obtain their voter cards without delay.

“The next month’s governorship election is important to the future of our state. I encourage all eligible voters to take advantage of the public holiday to collect their Permanent Voter Cards and be ready to exercise their right to vote,” the governor said.

The declaration comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues distributing PVCs across Osun State in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for next month.
