The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day countdown.
The engagement, scheduled for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BATICC), Abuja, is expected to give Nigerians and key participants in the electoral process an update on the commission’s level of preparedness.
INEC said discussions will cover major areas of election planning, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures aimed at protecting the credibility and integrity of the polls.
The meeting will be led by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
According to the commission, the engagement is part of efforts to maintain transparency, improve public communication and strengthen cooperation with institutions and organisations whose roles are important to the success and security of the elections.
Political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic community, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups are among those expected to attend.
The meeting comes as INEC moves into a crucial stage of preparations for the 2027 elections, with the commission expected to finalise several administrative, logistical and technological arrangements ahead of polling day.
While INEC has not disclosed whether changes to the existing electoral timetable will be announced, the commission said its chairman will address participants during the event.
The meeting is scheduled for 10am on Tuesday, October 6, with attendees expected to be seated before proceedings begin.
INEC said the event will be broadcast live on major national television stations and streamed through its official social media platforms to enable Nigerians who are unable to attend physically to follow the proceedings.
Attendance at the venue will be restricted to invited participants. Accredited journalists and guests will also be required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at designated security checkpoints.
