The Kano State Government has projected an increase in annual revenue from four restored public parks, from N5 million to N90 million, following the introduction of a new management system under a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement.

The Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahir M. Hashim, disclosed this in a statement announcing the handover of the facilities to private operators.

Hashim said the parks previously generated about N5 million annually but are now expected to contribute N90 million to the state’s revenue each year under the new arrangement.

He added that the operators had paid their agreed fees to the government, with some making advance payments covering between two and three years.

The parks include Audu Bako Park, renamed Kano First Food Court; Nassarawa Park, now known as Gida Gida Children’s Park; Kakuri Park, renamed AKY Diplomatic Garden; and Green Park, now called AKY Elderly Garden.

Under the agreement, Kano Food Court Limited will manage Kano First Food Court for an annual fee of N15 million, while Infranexus Limited will operate Gida Gida Children’s Park at N30 million per year.

Prime Groove Construction Limited will manage AKY Diplomatic Garden for N20 million annually, while Chikenza Park and Restaurant will operate AKY Elderly Garden at N25 million yearly.

According to the commissioner, the partnership model is intended to improve the maintenance of the parks, ensure their long-term sustainability and prevent the facilities from falling into disrepair.

He said the initiative aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision of developing a sustainable urban environment with accessible public spaces that serve the needs of residents.

Hashim also disclosed that the state government planned to rehabilitate additional parks as part of broader efforts to improve Kano’s urban landscape and environmental quality.

He encouraged individuals and businesses interested in operating approved commercial activities within the parks to contact the respective management companies.

However, he stressed that all commercial activities must comply with the designated recreational, public and environmental purposes of the facilities.

The government expects the new management arrangements to improve the upkeep of the parks while increasing revenue generated from public assets.
