The Lagos State Government has taken delivery of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses as part of efforts to expand public transportation and promote cleaner mobility across the state.
The buses were received on Thursday and handed over to operators under the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) at the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Depot in Ketu.
The latest addition to the transport fleet is expected to provide residents with more affordable and efficient commuting options while reducing dependence on conventional fuels.
Speaking during the handover, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting the deployment of CNG and electric buses to states across the country.
Osiyemi said the initiative would contribute to efforts to reduce transportation costs while improving the environmental sustainability of public transit.
He noted that the introduction of the buses would give commuters greater access to affordable transportation, improve their overall travel experience and reduce reliance on petrol and other conventional fuels.
The commissioner also said the use of cleaner-energy buses would contribute to better air quality in communities.
He described the deployment as part of the state government’s broader efforts to develop a more efficient and sustainable transportation system capable of meeting the needs of Lagos’ growing population.
