The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has announced plans to intensify enforcement of electrical safety standards and technical regulations across the country’s power sector.
The agency’s Managing Director and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Olusegun Adesayo, disclosed this in a goodwill message issued to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Adesayo congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government and Nigerians on the anniversary, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the country’s journey while renewing efforts towards a peaceful and prosperous future.
He said a stable and safe electricity sector remains essential to Nigeria’s economic development, stressing that NEMSA would continue to ensure that electrical installations, power systems and equipment meet approved technical and safety standards.
According to him, the agency will strengthen collaboration with stakeholders as part of efforts to support ongoing reforms in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry and advance the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Adesayo said NEMSA would continue to focus on inspection, testing, certification and enforcement to improve safety and reliability across the electricity value chain.
He urged electricity operators, engineers, contractors, other professionals and consumers to treat electrical safety as a shared responsibility.
“Electrical safety is not merely a regulatory requirement; it is essential to protecting lives, property and critical national infrastructure,” he said.
The NEMSA chief also encouraged Nigerians to remain committed to the country’s development and contribute positively through their various roles and responsibilities.
He expressed hope that the Independence Anniversary would strengthen national unity and encourage renewed commitment to building a safer and more sustainable Nigeria.
