Abia State Governor Alex Otti has donated two brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) to support their operations across the state.

The vehicles were handed over to the agencies on Monday at the Government House in Umuahia by the governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, MacDonald Ubah.

Ubah said the donation was part of Governor Otti’s commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the two federal agencies in Abia. He added that the governor had also promised to support the agencies with new vehicles and repairs for some vehicles in their existing fleets.

He said the vehicles would enable the FRSC and NCoS to perform their duties more efficiently.

Ubah urged the FRSC to deploy the vehicle towards reducing road crashes across the state, while charging the Correctional Service to strengthen inmate supervision and ensure that inmates appear in court whenever required.

Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the FRSC, the agency’s Abia Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, thanked the governor for the donation.

Ezeoma said the gesture reflected the state government’s commitment to protecting lives and property. She pledged that the vehicle would be used to improve road traffic management and safety operations.

She also expressed the agency’s commitment to reducing road crashes and fatalities across Abia.

The Abia Comptroller of Corrections, Blessing Iwuanyanwu, also appreciated the state government for providing the service with an operational vehicle.

Iwuanyanwu said the administration had supported the NCoS through several interventions aimed at improving its working environment and operations.

She noted that the government had provided a gate for the service’s office, reconstructed a damaged section of its perimeter fence and restored electricity to the facility.

According to her, the newly donated vehicle would make it easier for the service to transport inmates to court when required.

Iwuanyanwu pledged to continue carrying out her responsibilities diligently and work towards effective service delivery in Abia.
