The Oyo State Government has extended the curfew imposed across 10 Local Government Areas (LGAs) by an additional 24 hours, citing the need to sustain security operations and maintain law and order.

The extension comes as authorities continue to monitor the security situation in the affected areas, with residents urged to comply fully with the directive while security agencies carry out their duties.

In a statement announcing the extension, the state government said the decision followed a fresh review of the security situation and consultations with relevant security agencies.

Officials explained that the additional 24-hour restriction is intended to prevent any breakdown of law and order, protect lives and property, and provide security operatives with adequate time to stabilize the affected communities.

The government appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the curfew period.

The curfew remains in effect across the 10 previously announced local government areas.

While movement will continue to be restricted during the period covered by the order, essential service providers, including emergency responders and other authorized personnel, are expected to operate in accordance with guidelines issued by the government.

Residents have been advised to stay informed through official government announcements and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

Security personnel have continued patrols and surveillance across the affected communities as part of efforts to maintain peace and prevent further disturbances.

Authorities say the operations are aimed at restoring normalcy and ensuring that residents can safely resume their daily activities once the curfew is lifted.

The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while addressing the issues that led to the security measures.

The Oyo State Government called on community leaders, youth groups, religious organizations, and other stakeholders to support efforts to maintain peace.

Officials warned against actions capable of escalating tensions and encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The government also assured the public that it would continue to assess the security situation before making further decisions regarding the curfew.

Authorities are expected to review the security situation at the expiration of the additional 24-hour period to determine whether the restriction should be lifted, modified, or extended further.

Residents in the affected local government areas are advised to comply with the curfew and follow official updates as security operations continue.
