Nigeria’s Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Zainab Marwa as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, where she will represent the North-East geopolitical zone.

The confirmation was approved during Wednesday’s plenary after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the Senate Committee on the NDDC.

The committee’s report, originally sponsored by Senator Ekpenyong Asuquo, was presented before the Senate by Senator Patrick Ndubueze.

While presenting the report, Ndubueze explained that Bola Tinubu had formally submitted Dr. Marwa’s nomination to the Senate for legislative approval. Following the referral, the Senate Committee on the NDDC conducted a public screening to assess her qualifications, professional experience, integrity and suitability for the role.

According to the committee, its review of the nominee’s credentials and supporting documents showed that Dr. Marwa met all the constitutional and professional requirements for appointment to the commission’s governing board.

The committee concluded that she possesses the competence, experience and integrity needed to effectively represent the North-East on the board and therefore recommended that the Senate approve her nomination.

Following the committee’s recommendation, the Senate unanimously confirmed her appointment.

Speaking after the confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the Senate Committee on the NDDC for completing its assignment promptly and thanked senators for their contributions during the screening and confirmation process.

Akpabio also congratulated Dr. Marwa on her confirmation, expressing confidence that her appointment would strengthen the commission’s efforts to promote sustainable development across the Niger Delta region.
