Wike Defends FCT Policies, Responds To Political Critics At Media Chat

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday held a media chat in Abuja where he addressed key issues ranging from governance in the nation’s capital to national politics, urban development, security, and his relationship with political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the session, Wike defended his administration’s ongoing development projects, insisting that the FCT has witnessed significant improvements in road infrastructure, sanitation, security, and public service delivery since he assumed office.

The minister said the FCT Administration would continue enforcing its policies on land administration, revenue collection, and the removal of illegal structures, stressing that the measures are aimed at restoring order and improving the capital city’s development.

On infrastructure, Wike highlighted the completion and ongoing execution of several road projects across Abuja, maintaining that the administration remains committed to delivering projects within approved timelines.

Addressing security, he said the FCT Administration continues to work closely with security agencies to strengthen surveillance and improve public safety across the territory.

Wike also responded to questions on national politics, reaffirming his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and defending his decision to work with the Federal Government despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former Rivers State governor dismissed criticisms from some opposition figures, insisting that governance should take precedence over partisan politics and that his focus remains on delivering results for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

On the political situation in Rivers State, Wike maintained that peace and stability remain essential for the state’s development and expressed confidence that legal and constitutional processes would continue to address outstanding issues.

The minister further commented on preparations for the 2027 general elections, urging political actors to respect democratic processes and allow voters to determine the outcome of elections peacefully.
