Seven Die, Two Injured In Multiple Crash On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Seven people have died, and two others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the crash occurred around the Ibafo–Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo, in the early hours of Monday, August 24, 2026.

Three vehicles were involved in the incident: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.

According to the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command, nine people, all male, were involved in the crash. Seven died at the scene, while two others were injured.

The Chief Superintendent Route Commander, Afolabi Odunsin, said the FRSC Ibafo Outpost received the report at about 4:04 am and arrived at the scene five minutes later.

Preliminary findings identified a speed violation as the likely cause of the crash, although the FRSC said further investigation is needed to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The bodies of the deceased were evacuated from the scene by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the injured victims were taken for medical treatment.

The vehicles involved were subsequently handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further action.

The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists to exercise greater caution, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles.

He advised motorists to avoid excessive speed, maintain adequate distance from other vehicles and remain alert while driving.

Ogunjobi also warned motorists to take extra precautions at night, noting that poor visibility and driver fatigue can increase the risk of serious road crashes.

He commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured victims a quick recovery.
