Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead a Nigerian delegation on a government-to-government exchange focused on improving nutrition delivery.
The visit follows an invitation from Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is overseeing the country’s multi-sectoral approach to tackling nutrition challenges.
Shettima’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
The Vice President will participate in the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit, which is designed to allow officials from both countries to share experiences and strategies for strengthening nutrition programmes at the federal, state and local government levels.
During the engagement, the Nigerian delegation will study Ethiopia’s approach to government-led nutrition interventions and visit institutions and projects involved in improving food and nutrition outcomes.
The programme will also take Shettima and members of the delegation to a wheat farm and banana plantation in Oromia, the Bounty of the Basket Training Centre and selected households in Mojo, as well as Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.
The Nigerian delegation includes Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, among other government officials.
The exchange is expected to provide an opportunity for Nigeria to examine Ethiopia’s experiences in coordinating nutrition policies and delivering interventions across different levels of government.
Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after completing the engagements in Ethiopia.
