Three Dead, 12 Rescued as Building Collapses in Ogun

At least three people have died, and 12 others have been rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in the Ajuwon area of Ogun State.

Emergency responders said the rescued victims were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, while search and rescue efforts continued at the scene.

The Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Kusimo Idris, confirmed that 12 occupants were pulled alive from the rubble, including two newborn babies who are less than two months old.

According to eyewitnesses and emergency officials, the building collapsed at about 2:00 p.m. on Monday, shortly after a heavy downpour accompanied by a thunderstorm.

Although the exact number of occupants remains unclear, unconfirmed reports indicated that about 15 people were inside the building when the incident occurred.

Witnesses said the collapse caused two floors of the structure to cave in, leaving only the top floor partially standing.

Emergency personnel continued combing through the debris for possible survivors while authorities worked to determine the cause of the collapse.

The latest incident has renewed concerns over building safety and structural integrity, especially during the rainy season when heavy rainfall can increase the risk of structural failures. Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the cause of the collapse.
