Troops Repel Multiple Terrorist Infiltration Attempts in Borno, Intensify Offensive Across Northeast

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria Nigerian troops have successfully foiled multiple attempts by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists to infiltrate communities and military positions across Borno State, reinforcing ongoing efforts to contain insurgent activities in Nigeria’s Northeast.

The failed infiltration attempts occurred during coordinated counterterrorism operations conducted by troops under Operation Hadin Kai, with the military maintaining sustained pressure on insurgent strongholds through aggressive ground offensives, intelligence-led operations, and aerial surveillance.

According to military sources, soldiers engaged the terrorists in several encounters after receiving intelligence on planned attacks targeting civilian communities and security formations. The troops responded swiftly, forcing the insurgents to retreat after intense exchanges of gunfire.

Military authorities said the operations resulted in the disruption of the terrorists’ plans, while several insurgents were reportedly neutralized. Others escaped with varying degrees of injuries, abandoning weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and other operational logistics during their retreat.

The successful operations form part of Nigeria’s broader campaign to degrade the operational capabilities of Boko Haram and ISWAP, two extremist groups that have continued to launch sporadic attacks despite years of sustained military offensives.

Security analysts note that insurgent groups frequently attempt to infiltrate rural communities, military formations, and major transportation routes to replenish supplies, gather intelligence, or carry out surprise attacks. However, increased surveillance, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger collaboration between security agencies have significantly disrupted many of these operations.

Residents in parts of Borno have also continued to provide valuable intelligence to security forces, contributing to the early detection of suspicious movements and planned terrorist activities.

Military commanders have reiterated that troops remain on high alert across the theatre of operations and are committed to sustaining offensive actions aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement throughout the Northeast.

The latest development comes amid intensified clearance operations targeting terrorist enclaves in the Lake Chad Basin, Sambisa Forest, the Mandara Mountains, and surrounding border communities where remnants of insurgent groups continue to seek refuge.

Defence authorities have assured residents that ongoing military operations will continue until remaining terrorist cells are dismantled, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.

The renewed military successes underscore the Nigerian Armed Forces’ determination to consolidate recent gains against insurgency while improving security across the Northeast.
