Iran has said it has “no plans” for fresh negotiations following a dramatic escalation involving the United States seizure of an Iranian cargo vessel accused of attempting to breach a maritime blockade near Iranian ports.

According to statements attributed to US President Donald Trump, the vessel was ordered to stop but allegedly ignored repeated warnings before being intercepted by US naval forces.

Trump claimed the crew was given “fair warning to stop,” adding that the situation escalated after they failed to comply. He stated that US forces carried out a disabling strike, damaging the ship’s engine room to bring it under control.

“Vacate your engine room, vacate your engine room, we’re prepared to subject you to disabling fire,” a transmission reportedly instructed during the confrontation, as US forces moved in.

The incident has triggered sharp reactions from Tehran, with Iranian military officials warning of retaliation. Iranian media reports also claimed drone activity targeting US vessels, although no confirmed damage has been reported.

Amid the rising tensions, diplomatic efforts appear uncertain. The United States has reportedly sent a delegation to Pakistan for talks led by Vice President JD Vance, but it remains unclear whether Iran will participate.

An Iranian spokesperson confirmed that Tehran is not preparing for any new round of negotiations, stating that no decision has been made regarding future talks.

The escalation comes as a fragile US-Iran ceasefire window, reportedly set for two weeks, approaches its expiration on Wednesday. Analysts warn that even if indirect talks resume, prospects for a breakthrough remain slim given the growing military and diplomatic tensions.

The situation has heightened fears of a broader confrontation in the Gulf region, as both sides maintain firm positions while avoiding direct full-scale conflict—for now.
