Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its operations in the country and contributing to economic activities as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

The company, which has operated in Nigeria for 18 years, said its presence in the country involves a network of employees, business partners and other stakeholders.

JTI Nigeria’s General Manager, Abdallah Simba, made this known while reflecting on Nigeria’s development and the country’s economic prospects.

Simba described Nigeria as an important market for the company, noting that its continued presence reflects confidence in the country’s potential for economic growth and business opportunities.

He said the company’s operations are guided by corporate governance, regulatory compliance, ethical business practices and engagement with stakeholders.

According to him, JTI Nigeria also prioritises employee development, equal opportunities, workplace diversity and mutual respect as part of its approach to building a professional working environment.

“Our commitment to Nigeria goes beyond our business operations. As Nigeria celebrates the important milestone of its 66th Independence, we recognise the importance of operating an enterprise that contributes to the country’s development and creates value for our employees, partners and stakeholders,” Simba said.

He stressed that businesses operating in highly regulated industries must uphold transparency, accountability and responsible corporate practices while complying with applicable laws and regulations.

Simba added that effective stakeholder relationships and responsible business conduct remain important as companies navigate changes in Nigeria’s economic environment.

He expressed confidence in the opportunities available in the Nigerian market, noting that the country has the potential to support further business activities and economic development.

JTI Nigeria said it would continue to maintain its presence in the country, strengthen relationships with employees and business partners, and align its operations with relevant regulatory requirements and its stated business commitments.
