Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs in Bassa Local Government Area, announcing that construction on the Odenyi–Oguma Road will begin immediately after the rainy season.
The governor made the pledge on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of Bassa stakeholders and members of the Bassa Ododo Women 2027 Group at the Government House in Lokoja.
Ododo said improving road infrastructure remains a key priority of his administration, noting that better roads would enhance economic activities, ease transportation, and improve access to essential services for residents.
Beyond the Odenyi–Oguma Road, the governor also pledged to intensify efforts to secure the reconstruction of the Shintaku–Gboloko–Dekina Road, a federal highway that serves as a major transport corridor for communities in the area.
According to him, the Kogi State Government has continued to engage the Federal Ministry of Works to ensure the project’s completion. He disclosed that the state’s Commissioner for Works had, on his directive, met with the Minister of Works on two occasions to push for progress on the road being handled by TEC Engineering.
“We will continue to engage the Federal Government until the project is completed,” the governor assured.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Muhammed Muktar Shuaibu, commended Governor Ododo for what he described as notable achievements in infrastructure development, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, social welfare initiatives, and improved security across Kogi State.
He, however, appealed for greater attention to the developmental needs of Bassa Local Government Area, highlighting the poor condition of the Odenyi–Oguma and Shintaku–Gboloko–Dekina roads. He also called for the rehabilitation of healthcare facilities, renovation of public schools, and the provision of potable water to communities across the area’s three districts.
Addressing concerns over displaced residents of Ibiroko community in Mozum District, Governor Ododo directed community leaders to assess the cost of resettling affected families and submit a report to the state government for appropriate action.
The governor also responded to requests from members of the Bassa Ododo Women 2027 Group by approving additional political appointments for women. He instructed stakeholders to forward nominees from four wards that currently lack representation, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and greater participation of women in public service.
The renewed commitments underscore the Kogi State Government’s broader agenda of improving infrastructure, expanding access to public services, and promoting balanced development across the state’s local government areas.
