Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has commissioned a $200 million lithium mining and processing plant in Boko Village, Zurmi Local Government Area, describing the project as a major step toward unlocking the state’s mineral wealth and driving economic growth.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Lawal said the facility marks a new phase in Zamfara’s efforts to develop a modern, transparent and sustainable mining sector capable of attracting investment, creating jobs and boosting industrialisation.

He noted that the project reflects the state’s commitment to transforming the solid minerals industry from largely informal operations into a regulated, value-driven sector that delivers lasting benefits to residents.

The governor highlighted the growing global demand for lithium, driven by its critical role in electric vehicle batteries, renewable energy technologies and other advanced industries. He said the new processing plant positions Zamfara to take advantage of emerging opportunities in the global minerals market.

Lawal commended the companies behind the investment and other development partners for choosing Zamfara, saying their confidence sends a strong message that the state is open to responsible business and long-term investment.

He assured investors of continued government support through improved infrastructure, policy reforms and stronger collaboration aimed at creating a favourable business environment.

The governor also stressed the importance of ensuring that host communities benefit directly from mining activities through employment, skills development, environmental protection, community projects and meaningful corporate social responsibility programmes.

The state government says the project is expected to contribute to economic diversification while strengthening Zamfara’s position in Nigeria’s growing solid minerals industry.
