Akwa Ibom Approves ₦1.3bn Bursary Fund, Increases Student Grant to ₦50,000

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the release of ₦1.3 billion for the payment of bursaries to eligible students, alongside a significant increase in the bursary award from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000 per beneficiary.

The approval was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.

According to the state government, the initiative is designed to reduce the financial pressure on students, improve access to higher education, and strengthen human capital development across Akwa Ibom.

The government described the intervention as a major investment in the future of the state’s young people, noting that the increased bursary reflects the administration’s commitment to making education more accessible and affordable.

Beyond the ₦1.3 billion earmarked for bursary payments, the programme will provide financial support to eligible students across the state, helping more young people pursue their academic goals.

Governor Eno’s administration said the initiative aligns with its broader vision of creating opportunities through education and equipping the next generation with the resources needed to contribute to the state’s long-term development.
