Armed Gunmen Abduct Kebbi High Court Judge in Midnight Raid

A judge of the Kebbi State High Court, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, has been abducted by armed bandits who attacked his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

According to a source familiar with the incident, the judge had just returned from Sokoto before the gunmen stormed his home around midnight.

“He had just returned from Sokoto when the gunmen stormed his residence and took him away,” the source said.

The attackers reportedly fired sporadically during the operation, creating panic in the area before abducting the judge. No other member of the household was injured during the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Command, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm that Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was abducted from his residence in Bunza around midnight,” Usman said.

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, immediately deployed tactical and intelligence teams to begin a rescue operation.

According to the police spokesperson, security operatives are combing identified locations, including nearby forest areas, in an effort to rescue the judge alive and unharmed.

A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to comment publicly, described the abduction as a disturbing development for the judiciary.

The official added that the management of the Kebbi State High Court has already met with heads of security agencies in the state to coordinate efforts aimed at securing the judge’s immediate release.

The abduction has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of northwestern Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom and attacks by armed groups continue to pose significant security challenges.
