Plateau Records 311 Snakebite Recoveries Under Free Anti-Venom Program

The Plateau State Government has announced a major milestone in its fight against snakebite fatalities, revealing that 311 of the 312 reported snakebite cases recorded between December 2025 and June 2026 were successfully treated under its Free Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) Program.

The Director-General of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA), Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, disclosed the figures during an interview, crediting the success to Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s decision to provide residents with free access to life-saving anti-snake venom treatment.

According to Bot, the government procured and distributed Echitab Anti-Snake Venom to healthcare facilities across 15 local government areas, making treatment more accessible while removing the financial burden on victims.

He explained that the intervention has encouraged more people to seek immediate medical attention after snakebite incidents, significantly reducing preventable deaths and strengthening emergency healthcare services across the state.

With the farming season underway a period typically associated with a rise in snakebite cases Both disclosed that Governor Mutfwang has approved the procurement of additional anti snake venom to ensure health facilities remain fully stocked and prepared for emergencies.

He noted that the additional supply would guarantee uninterrupted access to treatment while reinforcing the state’s emergency response capacity.

The PS-DMCMA boss added that the continued implementation of the free anti-snake venom program reflects the Mutfwang administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, preventing avoidable deaths, and ensuring residents have timely access to quality medical care.
